Description
And who bear not false testimony, and when they pass by anything vain they pass on with dignity. And who when they are reminded of the Signs of their Lord fall not deaf and blind thereat. And who say 'Our Lord! Grant us of our spouses and children the delight of the eyes and make each of us a model for the righteous. So they are the ones who will be rewarded with lofty mansions because they were steadfast and they will be welcomed therein with greetings and salutations of peace. Abiding therein. Excellent it is as a place of rest and as an abode. Say 'But for your prayer my Lord would not care for you. Surely you have rejected and that is what would cleave unto you now.' ('The Holy Quran'. al-Furqan [The Criterion]: 73 - 78). The signs of the people of the Lord of Mercy were that they never approach falseness and turn away from frivolities. Their interest in the frivolous naturally lessens as as result of their avoiding what is false. Their taking no interest in frivolities does not make them any better than those who indulge in them and they are not hated because of it rather they pass on with dignity and honour. Their very gait betrays their standard of dignity and honour. Those who spontaneously begin display such characteristics as a result of their hatred of untruth attend to the Sings of Allah the Almighty once their interest in the frivolous wanes so their eyes gleam when the Sings of Allah are recited to them. Their taking an interest in virtues increases. They totally belong to God and seek all their desires and pleasures from Him so that they even seek the worldly delights in God which the common folk receive directly. They say 'O our Lord! Grant us the delights in our wives or our husbands and our children so that we are careless of other people. May they serve as a delight of our eyes* and make us a model for the righteous.' Preparation is essential before making this prayer. When such things as hating the false, looking away from anyone other than Allah and turning one's desires to Allah are born this prayer would have a different meaning that grant us the delight of the eyes in our wives, husbands, children which results in the birth of virtuous offspring. This is the way the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) always prayed: May it be so that I see the righteousness of them all When it is time for me to return (Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. 'Durr e Samin'). The delight of the eyes means leaving behind generations who are aware of God. From this perspective the question arises and we should always analyse ourselves with reference to it as to whether this prayer is accepted in relation to ourselves or not. Would the eyes of Muhammad the Messenger of Allah delight at us as people of the Messenger of Allah when we who desire the delight of our eyes in our children. This perspective should also be borne in mind when making this prayer. When the center of enjoyment has gone out of the homes in this age its cause is the neglect of this prayer. Some people expend their lives in vanities but not in sins. So if one wants to repent from sins and find it hard one would have to increase [the pursuit of] some other kinds of hobbies that are not filthy frivolities for examples there are healthy sports. Keep an eye on your children's interests. Have a relationship with them that would be a cause of creating virtues in them. Every Ahmadi family can account for themselves whether their children take an interest in them or not regardless of their being righteous themselves. The prayer of وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا ['make each of us a model for the righteous'] can only be fulfilled if the mother and father are righteous and if their children are drawn to them because of their righteousness. If your wives love your righteousness and love you more as your virtues increase then rest assured that this prayer is being accepted. There is an exceptional need in this age for this prayer because not only the calm of this world but also the calm of the next world is affiliated with this prayer. Because it is stated that these are the people who would be granted with lofty mansions. This means that they would be granted the highest tier of the kind of home they would build here. This Quranic verse also indicates the Islamic finesse of the gifts in heaven. As it is important to treat the diseases of this world with patience it is also important to be patient to be cured of the spiritual diseases. The prayer of ...... رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا [''Our Lord! Grant us of our spouses'] has been very effective in reforming the homes and the homes have often been transformed as a result of this prayer. *Literally 'coolness of the eyes', an Arabic expression.
