Description

Before the translation today there remained some discussion yesterday regarding the word لَهْوٌ ['pastime'].  I believe it is correct in any case to take لَهْوٌ to mean one's carnal lusts that are described in English as 'playful'.  This word is also used for illicit relationships.  The 'Lisān al-ʿArab' [Muhammad Ibn Manẓūr, 1290] also writes 'The fulfillment of playful sexual urges'.  So such pastimes which restrict one from Divine commemoration, diverts one's attention from important and relatively better tasks, this is also included in لَهْوٌ.  For example if children ignore their education and occupy their time in Cricket and watching Dramas their doing so would be considered indulging in لَهْوٌ.  

Verse 29: The righteous are advised to be conscious of the Almighty God and promised an an added reward and increase in their enlightenment in return for believing in the Holy Prophet.

al- Mujadala, verse 8: An important clarification is made regarding a Social habit that is secret consultations.  Any secretly held consultation which is sinful, treacherous and transgression to the Prophet is Satanic.  It emphasis the method of secret consultation as practiced by the Holy Prophet which were held in the common interests of virtue and God-consciousness.
