Peace Symposium

Description

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the UK hold an annual Peace Conference at Baitul Futuh Mosque, London. The Aim of the Peace Conference is to bring people from different faith, ethnic and social backgrounds to talk about and spread the message of peace. This year's peace symposium was graced with the presence of the Worldwide Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (may Allah strengthen his hands). Other distinguished guests were Eric Reginald Lubbock, 4th Baron Avebury; Justine Greening Shadow Minister and MP for Putney; Siobahn McDonagh MP for Mitcham and Morden; and Steven Hammond MP for Wimbledon. This year's symposium included the inauguration of the Ahmadiyya Peace Prize, an award given to a person or organisation who has been distinguished as promoting peace in the world. This year's prize was awarded to Lord Eric Avebury for his vast humanitarian work and work for peace. The evening's session closed the key note address from His Holiness, who spoke about today's world and how it should go about striving for peace. Later the guests were gievn the privilege to have an additional sitting with His Holiness, where they were able to ask questions and talk about their views on peace. This symposium is but one event that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community organise to strive to promote peace in today's society, and to try to better the world we live in.
